The Ohio Machine (2-10) outscored the Rochester Rattlers (7-5) 10-7 in the second half, but they could not overcome the early deficit and lost 14-13.
Rattlers attackman Kevin Leveille began the scoring with his 13th goal of the season to give Rochester the early 1-0 lead. The MLL record holder for games played, Matt Striebel, scored his 12th career two-point goal to increase the Rattlers lead to three.
With 4:27 left to go in the first quarter Woodson put the Machine on the board with his 19th goal of the season.
Attackmen Jordan MacIntosh and Kevin Leveille scored back to back goals to give the Rattlers the 5-1 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Machine began to battle back when Woodson scored the first goal of the second quarter. Rochester rookie midfielder Rob Rotanz answered with a goal of his own on a pass from midfielder Brad Ross.
Woodson completed his hat-trick late in the second quarter to cut the Rattlers’ lead down to three but Rochester attackman Ned Crotty scored right before half to make it 7-3 at half-time.
Machine rookie midfielder Kiel Matisz scored two goals for Ohio to start the third quarter and to cut the Rattlers lead down to three.
Rattlers attackman Steven Boyle and Machine midfielder Connor Martin traded goals to keep Rochesters lead at three. The Machine cut the lead down to two when Woodson and Martin scored back-to-back goals.
With 51 seconds to go in the third Rotanz completed his hat-trick and Rochester took a 11-8 lead into the final quarter.
Woodson scored his fifth goal of the game but the Rattlers took a commanding five goal lead when Matt Striebel scored his second 2-pt goal of the game and Jordan MacIntosh followed it up with his third of the game.
Ohio began to storm back when rookie attackman Billy Eisenreich scored his first career goal. With 3:51 left in the game Martin scored his second career 2-pt goal to make it a two goal game. One minute later out of a timeout midfielder Matt Casey scored his first goal of the game to bring Ohio within one with 1:59 left in the game.
The Machine took possession late in the game but were unable to convert and suffered its second one goal loss of the season.
Chazz Woodson had a career high six points (5G 1A) for Ohio and Steele Stanwick now leads the team with 15 assists.
The Machine return to action next Saturday when they travel to Boston to play the Cannons for the first time this season.
