Machine Looks for Breakthrough Against Rattlers

Coming off a record-setting performance that ended in its fourth loss of two goals or less in 2014, the Ohio Machine is set to take on the Rochester Rattlers on Saturday, June 14.

Face-off will be at 5:30 p.m. EST at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio. The game will be broadcast live on the MLL Network.

It will be the fifth meeting between the two teams.

The Machine lost its last game, 16-17, to Boston on June 6, but actually managed to double Rochester’s score form its most recent matchup. The Rattlers won in double overtime against Chesapeake on June 5, but managed to score just eight times. Attackman Logan Schuss set a Machine record with eight points in the loss while the team set a record with 25 total points as a group.

Ohio is 2-2 all-time against Rochester – including a 2-0 record at Selby Stadium. The Machine won the first and the most recent matchup between the two teams. Ohio took home a 16-10 victory on May 19, 2012, before winning, 13-11, on June 15, 2013.

In two games against the Rattlers in 2013, Schuss totaled six goals and attackman Steele Stanwick had three assists. Goalie Brian Phipps played all 120 minutes of the two games and finished with a 1-1 record. He made 28 saves for a .596 save percentage.

After its offensive explosion against the Cannons, Ohio will look to continue that form against Rochester. The Rattlers are currently tied for second in Major League Lacrosse with a 4-2 record.

So far in 2014, attackman Marcus Holman is leading the Machine with 18 points – from 11 goals, with one two-point tally, and six assists. Midfielder Peter Baum is the team’s leader with 14 goals, while midfielder Kyle Harrison has 12 and Holman and Schuss each have 11 goals. Attackman Steele Stanwick leads the team with 13 assists.

In the goal, Phipps has a 1-3 record for Ohio and Scott Rodgers is 1-1. Each have better than a .500 save percentage while Phipps boasts a 9.93 goals-against average.

Machine captain Greg Bice spent time with Rochester in 2011, as did reserve goalie Stefan Schroder. Midfielder Bobby Dattilo played for the Rattlers from 2012 to 2013.

After the matchup with the Rattlers, the Machine will head to Boston to face the Cannons June 21. That game is set for 8 p.m. EST on the MLL Network. Ohio’s next home game will be on the Fourth of July when it faces off with the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Selby Stadium. Face-off is set for 4 p.m. EST on CBS Sports Network.
